Stump Pond Restoration Coalition
Whether you’ve cast your first line here, kayaked across its peaceful waters, or hiked along its scenic trails, Stump Pond at Blydenburgh Park holds a special place in the heart of our community. It’s been the backdrop to countless memories—from family fishing events to quiet moments spent reconnecting with nature. Together, we can restore this beloved lake to its former glory.
As our mission has grown, we’ve expanded how we share information and organize community action. Our coalition’s online home is now Outdoor Voices LI—a website created to post updates, share resources, and make it easier for everyone to stay informed and get involved.
Why Stump Pond Matters
Stump Pond has been a hub for local anglers, boaters, hikers, and nature lovers for generations. The Long Island Bassmasters Father’s Day Kids Event has been hosted here for decades, introducing countless children to the joy of fishing. Families have gathered here year after year, creating traditions that last a lifetime.
But it’s not just about fishing. The pond is also a gathering point for hikers, kayakers, and visitors from all over Long Island. Its biodiversity and natural beauty help support wildlife and provide a peaceful retreat for everyone who loves this park.
The Current Challenge
In August 2024, a devastating storm caused the dam at Stump Pond to collapse, draining the pond and leaving behind a muddy expanse where a vibrant lake once stood. This has taken away a cherished recreational space, disrupted the ecosystem, and put important community events on hold.
Fishing, boating, and many outdoor activities have been brought to a standstill. Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that we unite to restore the pond and rebuild the dam responsibly.
